People love blue and white table ware because it has that traditional look of eighteenth century china. To get increased contrast I tried using black. When the piece was fired I found it came out in a rich brown. The best thing about it, as it turns out, is that food looks great on this plate. Try it and you will see.

How they are made

Each of these pieces is hand-thrown or hand-pressed white stoneware clay, hand-decorated so that each piece is unique. They are fired to 2,175 degrees Fahrenheit in the Maryhill Clayworks kiln to make them dishwasher, oven and microwave safe.

"I am a proud collector of the beautiful and whimsical work of Jacques Schickel. Every time I use a bowl, vase or plate from Maryhill Clayworks, I'm reminded of a country garden on a languid summer day."
